Important Liturgical News from Rome

In an interview this Sunday to Spanish daily La Razón, the new Prefect of Divine Worship, Cardinal Cañizares Llovera, had this to say on an important liturgical matter:

[La Razón:] Nevertheless, Benedict XVI has reiterated in some instances the propriety of receiving communion kneeling and in the mouth. Is it something important, or is it a mere matter of form?

[Cañizares:] – No, it is not just a matter of form. What does it mean to receive communion in the mouth? What does it mean to kneel before the Most Holy Sacrament? What dies it mean to kneel during the consecration at Mass? It means adoration, it means recognizing the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist; it means respect and an attitude of faith of a man who prostrates before God because he knows that everything comes from Him, and we feel speechless, dumbfounded, before the wondrousness, his goodness, and his mercy. That is why it is not the same to place the hand, and to receive communion in any fashion, than doing it in a respectful way; it is not the same to receive communion kneeling or standing up, because all these signs indicate a profound meaning. What we have to grasp is that profound attitude of the man who prostrates himself before God, and that is what the Pope wants.

Bulletin Articles 12/21

This Thanksgiving St. Charles Borromeo’s St. Vincent de Paul Conference served over a 100 meals to individuals and families in need.

A special thanks goes out to members of the St. Charles Borromeo Parish for your assistance with restocking the food pantry. During our food drive we collected 83 bags/1,494 pounds of food and $80 in cash donations.

Don’t forget the Children, our annual Children’s Christmas Party is December 20th and all donations can be taken to the church office on or before December 12th.

God keep you and bless you for your continued support of SVdP.

Mardi Gras Update: The Social Committee wishes to thank everyone who cast a ballot for the King and Queen of Mardi Gras. The King and Queen will be selected from the nominees and announced at Mardi Gras Celebration 2009! Watch the bulletin for information about ticket sales!

Our coupon trading box is a huge success thanks to everyone that has donated, clipped and sorted. But it seems that parishioners canʼt find what they want or they donʼt have enough time to look or they just donʼt use coupons, so currently there are more donators than users.  The new change will help these issues and allow parishioners to request the specific coupons they want (for example Yoplait yogurt, Suave hair care, baby products in general, etc).  This will allow you to receive your own envelope with only the coupons you want and need.  The coupon box will still remain in the church foyer for everyoneʼs use but this change will make the process user-friendly.  And extra coupons remaining after our parishionersʼ selections are made, will be used in a monthly paid coupon service that will be offered to non-parishioners so that our expended community can benefit as well.  Expired coupons will also still be sent to military families overseas.  In the coming weeks look for product selection sheets near the coupon box and please fill one out and drop it in the sealed box next to the trading box. Also I will be teaching a class in December at our church to show parishioners how easy it is to save money using coupons, discounts and simple techniques.  If you have questions or suggestions email KathyChurch @YourSensibleSpending.com or call 623-878-4708.  Thank you.

The Diocese has informed us that The Sacrament of Confirmation and First Holy Communion will be celebrated Wednesday, May 20, 2009 by the Vicar for Priests, the Reverend James Wall. Details will be made known to the students and families involved as the date nears.

Envelope Using Parishioners! Father Gonzales has a gift for you. Please stop by the Parish Office and pick up your 2009 Calendar. Each family using envelopes have had labels attached to a specific calendar. A limited supply of additional non-labeled calendars will be made available at the Christmas Day Mass for those families not using Sunday contribution envelopes.
