Fiesta Organizing Meeting Planned

Dear Ministries and Organizations,

May the grace and peace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

It’s just about Festival08 time, and the Fiesta Committee is counting on you and your ministry/organization. Two members of your ministry are invited to a meeting on Friday evening, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. We will be working on some of the details and we need your presence. Please call Patricia Rascon at 623 979-3418 with your RSVP by 4:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11.

Due to rising costs, this year we are asking the each ministry cover their own expenses. The parish will be able to cover paper goods (plates, bowls, napkins etc.) only. Prices for food items have already been set, and the various ministries are asked to assist with the following:

Fundraising Committee | Guadalupanos Carne Asada $2.00, Sunday morning Menudo $4.00 Knights of Columbus | Social Committee Coffee | Soda | Water $1.00 Gatorade $2.00

St Vincent DePaul/Women’s Guild Snacks & Sweets $.25 to $1.00

Jr and Senior High Hamburgers | Chips and Chili Dogs | Chips $3.00, Hot Dogs | Chips $2.50

Encuentro Matrimonial Gorditas $3/00

Catechists | Choir Cheese Crisps $2.00

Clases Biblica Elias | Coro Fry Bread Sweet & Bean $3.00, Deluxe $5.00

Rosary Group Bean & Cheese Burritos $2.50 Greene Chile $3.00

If you would like to hold a Sunday morning fundraiser to cover your Festival08 expenses, please call Jennie Vargas at 623 295-9448 to schedule. The Committee will be soliciting cash and food

donations from the entire parish to assist our efforts, so we’ll need to know your supply needs.

Several weeks ago your ministry received a letter from the Committee asking you to submit the names of young ladies of the parish ages 14 to 17 to compete for the title of Fiesta Queen. So far, two young ladies have come forward. More are needed!

Raffle tickets, and cash/food donation solicitation letters will be available that evening. Finally, if you know of any entertainers who would be willing to join us that weekend, please let us know that evening.

Thanking you for all of your kindness and support of St. Charles Borrmeo parish, I remain,

Your Servant,

(Rev. Fr.) Loren W, Gonzales

Pastor’s Prose

Many thanks to all who responded to my plea for an increase in the weekly plate collection. We were just shy of the $5000 goal for the first two weeks. Only $3982 was collected the third week, so the parish was unable to fulfill its August financial obligations. We have begun the month of September where we will need $5500 for each of the four weeks. So I ask you to please continue your generosity.

Deacon Joe and his wife Maria will be away the weekend of the 13th and 14th in order to attend the annual Diocesan Deacon’s Retreat. Please pray for them as they augment their spiritual lives.

A priest representative for Food for the Poor will be here the weekend of the 13th and 14th to share about this very important ministry. We should all make room in our lives to assist with those who have much less than we. In serving them, we serve the Lord Himself.

Our Religious Education program has begun and we will have the opportunity to show our appreciation of our catechists and volunteers on Catechetical Sunday, September 20.

In the coming weeks we will be viewing videos from the Diocese. The first one will be Bishop Olmsted’s Message regarding Proposition 102, the marriage amendment. The second video involves the Sanctity of Life weekend.

The Lord has indeed blessed us. Let us continue to give Him thanks and praise!

— Fr. Loren Gonzales

SVdP would like to give our most heart felt ‘thank you’ to the students and families of Pop Warner football who donated well over $300 in groceries to the St. Charles Borromeo SVdP Society Conference. This gift was so important to our community because our pantry selves are dangerously low. The food is greatly needed.

May you continue to feel the peace and joy of supporting St. Vincent de Paul in our efforts to provide a valuable service to our community. Thank You
